SPORTIC

Full Title

SPORTIC : automatic audiovisual sport summary.

Abstract

The goal of the SPORTIC project is to automatically cover and thus for a minimal cost sports events. A SPORTIC infrastucture consists of a network of cameras connected to a dedicaced server. Its moderated cost makes it pertinent even for local events.

Especially, the SPORTIC framework allows :

  • Automatic tagging which extend the video content by describing objectively and precisely actions that occurs during the game (action type, key player, ...)
  • Autonomeus video production . The goal is to provide a low cost video stream to the rights holders and/or the broadcasters in order to, for example, expand their pay-per-view catalog.
  • Automatic and personnalized audiovisual summarization. This service adresses itself to both professionals (coaches, managers, players) and the general public.

From a scientific point of view, the project relies on challenges in three specific fields :

  • In computer vision, SPORTIC attempt on one hand to develop efficient and robust image processing algortihms for analysis and interpretation of multi-cameras, on the other hand to broadcast a high quality stream using PTZ cameras or image inteprolation techniques.
  • For natural language generation, linguistic studies automatic adapation of modules of discourse planning and syntaxic construction in order to (i) generate a sportscast accordingly to the length and the style chosed by the user, and to (ii) organize the summary in a coherent way according to identified trends in the game.
  • Finally, expressive vocal synthesis of the commentary tries to exhibit the game intensity and will be considered as a parametrical speech synthesis problem.
